Each meter is dependent on different data. GoCatch uses data from Google Maps to calculate distance and time. We calculate the distance by taking the exact pick up location to the drop off location.
For a taxi meter the vehicle could stop before or after the pick up point. Drop off is not exactly at the pick up point. That is because the traditional meter technology is not GPS-based and relies on the drive shaft of a car to determine price. It is difficult to verify traditional metering systems because variability exists between vehicles and the installation of different types of meters.
The drive shaft detects changes in the average speed and applies the kms or minutes amount when below 26km/h. On the other hand, Google Maps breaks up a trip in intervals and calculates the length of time of each so average speed is not known at every second.
